Greetings from Dr. Tonya Robinson-McNair!

Welcome! I am dedicated to sharing research-based instructional strategies that integrate curriculum, teaching, and technology to create a dynamic learning experience. My goal is to inspire and empower teachers, parents, and students to reach their full potential.

Before we became educators, we were children with hopes, dreams, and aspirations. My hope is that you will ignite and consult that inner child in you to meet the needs of all students. For, they are our greatest commodity.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Family

Family is everything to me. I am a true "Daddy's Girl." My father is one of my favorite people in this world. His wisdom, strength, and love guides me through life. My most recent children's book, Daddy's Girl, is dedicated to him.

Students

Students are our greatest commodity. My passion to see them grow and excel in every aspect of their lives is why I teach. I want to leave such an impact that they will never doubt the greatness within themselves.

Recreation

"Grind so you can shine" is my motto. I truly believe hard work pays off. We should work diligently and reward ourselves with lavish play. Life is to be lived, enjoyed, and impactful. Who are you impacting today?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the IDT 7914 Curriculum, Teaching, & Technology course about?

IDT 7914 Curriculum, Teaching, & Technology is a doctoral course offered at Nova Southeastern University. Click the link above to learn more about this course.

As an educator, which ISTE Educator and Student standards seem the easiest to incorporate into your content curricula? Which seem like they might be the most difficult?

The easiest ISTE Educator standards to incorporate are the Collaborator and Analyst standards because our district has provided a foundation for analyzing data using technology, and professional learning communities allow educators to share instructional technology and resources. The most difficult ISTE Student standard to implement would be Computational Thinker because I am unsure how to initiate this process with primary students.

Which of the ISTE Student Standards do you most value when planning your students' learning?

The Knowledge Constructor standards for students are most valuable for my first-grade students as I foster independence and encourage my students to extend their knowledge beyond the basic skills taught. My students are empowered when I release them to use technology to learn more about a subject of their interest or to help them solve a problem, such as using online dictionaries or digital pronunciation keys. However, I would like to begin incorporating the Global Collaborator standards so they can experience talking to other students and professionals beyond our classroom or school (Bouton et al., 2021). Maybe we could begin collaborating with another school to develop a community garden that corresponds to one of the reading units in our curriculum.
